ADDISON, Ill. - The Vincennes University bowling team ended its month-long layoff by competing in a Tier 1 event in Addison, Illinois over the weekend.

Senior Tyler Perry came away with a Top-5 finish to help the ‘Blazers to a 45-place finish in the field of 70 teams.

Perry finished with an average of 225 over the course of five games in the field of over 350 bowlers.

The all-tournament team was Perry’s fifth of the season.

“Tyler continued his season of solid performances,” VU coach Jesse Gibson said of his top bowler. “This keeps him in the hunt for collegiate player of the year.”

Perry was the only VU bowler to average 200 over the course of the weekend.

Tyler Lewis (175.5), Connor Hickey (171.75) and Joshua Taylor (169.3) all bowled four games in the tournament.

Gibson noted the Trailblazers were without a key senior due to injury which may have caused the team to finish lower than expected.

“The injury to Ryan Benslay caused some some of our less experienced players to fill the spot,” Gibson stated. “This experience is essential for them to grow into the players we need them to to be to compete at a high level. Unfortunately it can come at a cost as we experienced that cost first hand this weekend.”

Other bowlers for the Trailblazers included: Hunter Stevens(179.5), Michael Whiteside (159.5), Keaton Green (149.3) and Isaac Wake (149).

The Trailblazers return to action with an exhibition match inside the VU Bowling Lanes on Saturday. They travel to the McKendree Baker Classic Feb. 2-3.
