VINCENNES, Ind. - An exhibition of new projects from painter and master printer Tom Reed will open at Vincennes University’s Shircliff Gallery of Art on Oct. 3. “Tom Reed | Nature” will run through Nov. 3, concluding with an artist talk and reception at the Gallery at 11 a.m. EDT.

Admission is free and the Gallery is located in the Shircliff Humanities Center at the corner of First and Harrison streets. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; and 12 Noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

In addition to being a working artist, Reed is a senior lecturer at Washington University's Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts. His artwork is rustic in appearance and in mood, often characterized by colorfully muted tree stumps, teepees, totem poles, and flowers. Instead of a blank canvas, Reed begins most of his paintings on pages torn from coloring books or word finds, explaining that he "likes to start his work with a dialogue." From this unconventional beginning, the artist transforms the pages into beautifully stylized panels that can tell a story with just one image.
