VINCENNES, Ind. – There is an increasing demand for healthcare professionals and Vincennes University is helping meet an important workforce need by offering a new online bachelor’s degree in Health Care Services Administration this fall.

Health care became the largest employer in the United States in 2018.

VU’s Bachelor of Science degree program is intended for individuals who have earned an associate degree in a healthcare or business-related field and wish to advance to supervisory and administrative positions in health care settings such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, and public health agencies. The degree is being offered in an online format. The curriculum will focus on health care policies, informatics, budgeting, and analysis of healthcare delivery systems.

Administrative positions in the health care field are in high demand due to an aging population and the expansion of insurance coverage.

Job growth in the health care services field is expected to increase 18 percent from 2018 to 2028, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

It reported the median annual wage for health services and medical managers was $100,980 in May 2019. The national average entry-level wage is typically around $58,000.

Michelle Cummins, VU Dean

“The new bachelor's degree in Health Care Services Administration is one of the most valuable and dynamic undergraduate programs offered,” College of Health Sciences and Human Performance Dean Michelle Cummins said.

“The dedicated graduates from this program will work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. In today's climate, it has become evident how valuable these graduates will be in the future of healthcare. We are so excited to offer this degree!”

VU also offers bachelor’s degree programs in technology, homeland security, nursing, secondary education programs in mathematics and science, and special education/elementary education in addition to a wide range of associate degree and certificate programs.
