BELLEVILLE, Ill. - The Vincennes University women’s basketball team set the tone early at District P foe Southwestern Illinois on Wednesday evening.

The Lady ‘Blazers raced out to a 23-8 lead over the first 10 minutes of play en route to a 72-52 win.

VU improves to 12-4 overall and remains perfect in district play (6-0).

Sophomore Ivanda Hudjakova netted a season-high 19 points to pace the Lady Trailblazers offense.

Fess Hawkins joined Hudjakova in double figures with 15 points. The freshman also added seven rebounds and five assists.

Nickelle O’Neil continues to be a spark off the VU bench. The freshman reserve guard tossed in eight points to go along with a career-best seven steals.
Jhala Henry added nine points, while Jaynice Stovall and Grace Yocum finished with eight points apiece.

Stovall, who entered the game leading all National Junior College Athletic Association Division I players in steals, recorded two steals and handed out five assists.

VU returns home on Saturday when it plays host to Shawnee.
