HARRISBURG, Ill. -- There are losses, and then there is what the Vincennes University women’s basketball team experienced Wednesday night.

The Lady Trailblazers turned the ball over three times and were outscored 7-0 in the final 26 seconds of the game for a disappointing 72-71 loss to Southeastern Illinois.

The loss drops VU to 13-6 on the season and 7-2 in District P play.

Bre’Ana Douglas connected on a pair of free throws to give the Lady Falcons a 72-71 lead with seven seconds left.

Out of timeouts, the Trailblazers could not get off a shot for another buzzer beater as they turned the ball over.

VU led 15-10 after the first 10 minutes of play and 34-27 at halftime.

Southeastern doubled up the Blazers in the third period for a 49-45 lead heading into the final frame.

Shamari Tyson started the Lady Falcons rally in the final 30 seconds with a three-pointer, before the Falcons scored on a layup after a turnover on an inbound pass.

Jaynice Stovall led the Lady ‘Blazers with 18 points in the loss, while Jhala Henry added 16 points and five steals.

Ivanda Hudjakova recorded a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Fess Hawkins, who missed Saturday’s game against Olney Central, scored six points and seven rebounds.

VU connected on 21 of 26 from the free-throw line for a season-best 81 percent.

The Trailblazers return to the court Monday against Shawnee, inside the P.E. Complex. The game is a makeup contest from a Jan. 19 postponement.

Tipoff Monday is set for 5 p.m.
