March 1, 2019 / No. 2 VU wins battle of ranked teams

MT. CARMEL, Ill. - The Vincennes University men’s basketball team made it a perfect 4-for-4 Friday night.

The No. 2 Trailblazers faced its fourth ranked opponent of the season and earned their fourth win in those games with a 69-59 win over No. 25 Wabash Valley.

With the win the Trailblazers finish the regular season with a 29-1 record and head into the District 16 postseason tournament next week with a 14-game winning streak.

VU shot a season-worst 33 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes of play but still carried a 31-29 advantage into the locker room at the break.

The Trailblazers found their shooting touch in the second half by connecting on 50 percent from the field to pull away from the Warriors.

Sophomore Keith Clemons netted a game-high 20 points in the win.

George Dixon was the only other player in double figures for the Blazers as the sophomore post player added 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds.

Kevin Kangu added nine points off the bench, while Colton Sandage (6) and Jordan Lyons (5) combined for 11 points in the win.

The Trailblazers, who won the District 16 regular season championship with a 19-1 mark, are the No. 1 seed in the district postseason tournament at Rend Lake beginning Tuesday.
