March 28, 2018 / Red Cross Blood Drive at VU, April 3-4

VINCENNES, Ind. - Giving blood is a simple act that can save a life. Eligible donors of all blood types are encouraged to participate in an American Red Cross Blood Drive hosted by Vincennes University on April 3 and 4, 12 Noon to 6 p.m. (EDT). The drive will be held at VU’s Beckes Student Union located on Second Street at the corner of Indianapolis Avenue. Parking will be available behind the building.

Donors may drop in at any time during the Blood Drive. Specific appointments can be scheduled online at redcrossblood.org/donating-blood.

According to the Red Cross, donated blood is perishable and must constantly be replenished to keep up with hospital patient needs. Red blood cells are the component most frequently transfused and must be used within 42 days of donation.

Potential donors should bring a driver’s license or two other forms of identification, as well as a list of current medications. Before any blood is collected, each person’s health history will be discussed and temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and hemoglobin (or hematocrit) will be measured.
