April 9, 2019 / Trailblazer baseball adds to win column

VINCENNES, Ind. – With a win over nationally ranked Lincoln Land over the weekend and an 8-3 victory over Frontier on Tuesday, the Vincennes University baseball team hopes to keep the momentum going heading into the weekend.

Against Frontier, the Trailblazers scored three runs in the first inning and tacked on runs in the fourth and fifth innings for a 5-1 lead at Jerry Blemker Field.

Frontier scored twice in the top of the sixth to make it 5-3. VU answered by putting two more runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning and scored again in the eighth.

Sophomore pitcher Luke Lancaster earned the win. He allowed one hit and zero runs in 3 innings. He struck out three batters in relief.

Sophomore Brian Campbell earned the save. He had one strikeout and allowed zero hits and runs in 3.1 innings.

The Trailblazers collected eight hits.

Sophomore Treven Madden hit 2-for-2, including a double.

Freshman Ryan Robison was 2-for-5 and one RBI. He also scored a run.

Sophomore Tyler Estes scored twice and hit a double.

VU’s overall record improved to 17-15.

The Trailblazers possess a 5-7 Mid-West Athletic Conference record.  They resume league play with a four-game conference series against Illinois Central College on Saturday and Sunday in East Peoria, Illinois. Saturday’s doubleheader begins at 2 p.m. EDT. The doubleheader on Sunday starts at noon EDT.

VU won the final contest of a four-game series against No. 18 Lincoln Land 11-9 last Sunday.
