May 14, 2019 / Trailblazer Lony Francis Jr. headed to Arkansas State

VINCENNES, Ind. – After playing two years for Vincennes University, Lony Francis Jr. will play next season for the Arkansas State men’s basketball program.

Francis announced he has committed to the Red Wolves.

“We’re excited,” VU Men’s Basketball Coach Todd Franklin said. “It’s a solid Division I program. Lony took four visits and Arkansas State was the last of them. He decided as soon as he visited that this was the place for him.”

Francis helped the Trailblazers win the NJCAA Division I national championship in March. He averaged a team-high 15.8 points per game as a sophomore and was No. 2 on the team in rebounding with 7 per game.

He was named to the NJCAA All-American honorable mention team two years in a row.

Francis scored over 1,000 career points in his VU career.

He has been invited to play in the 2019 NJCAA Men’s Basketball Coaches All-Star Game presented by the NABC on Saturday in Las Vegas. Franklin will coach Francis and the other Division I players against a team made up players from Division II and Division III.
