January 30, 2019 / Trailblazer men win in rout

HARRISBURG, Ill. - The Vincennes University men’s basketball team scored the first 13 points of the game and never let up Wednesday night.

The No. 2 Trailblazers improved to 20-1 on the season with a lopsided 122-41 District 16 road win over a depleted Southeastern Illinois team.

The Falcons only had seven players dressed for the game.

VU connected on 12 shots from behind the arc as it raced out to a commanding 63-25 lead at the half.

With the game all but decided the only questions to be answered in the second half were how much the final margin be and would the Trailblazers break the program record of 19 three-pointers in a game.

Colton Sandage and Michael Rogers knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers in the final 90 seconds of the game as the Trailblazers tied the program record of 19 made shots from distance.

The 19 made 3-pointers was the second time this season VU tied the program record as it also connected on 19 back on Jan. 3 against Elizabethtown Community Tech.

“We moved the ball really well against their zone,” VU coach Todd Franklin told Voice of the Trailblazers Dave Hunter in the post-game radio show on 91.1. “When they pack it in on the zone like that, the open looks are going to be there and the guys knocked them down and gave a good effort.”

Sandage finished with six 3-pointers in the game for a career-high of 20 points.

“Colton is really starting to come together,” Franklin said of his freshman sharp shooter.
“Now we just need him not to let up and keep hitting the gas.”

Keith Clemons led the Blazers with a game-high 22 points, while George Dixon (13), Kevin Kangu (12) and Kevin Osawe (11) all joined Sandage and Clemons in double digits.

VU returns to the court at Lake Land on Saturday before returning to the P.E. Complex Monday night.

Saturday’s game will be a 2 p.m. tipoff.
