MT. CARMEL, Ill. - The Vincennes University women’s basketball team fell behind by 11 points after the first quarter to No. 1 ranked Wabash Valley and never could recover Friday night.

The Lady Trailblazers dropped an 81-70 decision to the top-ranked and undefeated Warriors in the regular-season finale for both teams.

With the loss VU finishes the regular season with a 21-7 record and had its eight-game winning streak snapped.

The Trailblazers did outscore Wabash Valley in the second half, 42-32 after being down 49-28 at the half.

Fess Hawkins recorded a double-double with 14 points and a career-high 22 rebounds.

Three other Lady ‘Blazers joined Hawkins in double figures in scoring.

Reeva Hammelman knocked down a trio of 3-pointers as she totaled 13 points, while Jhala Henry and Ivanda Hudjakova both added 12 points.

Hudjakova (8) and Henry (7) combined for 15 rebounds, while Hammelman came away with three steals.

Cristina De La Cruz recorded eight points and handed out four assists off the bench, while Jaynice Stovall scored six points.

VU finished the regular season in second place in the District P standings and will host a first-round district game Tuesday night inside the P.E. Complex.

Tipoff will be 7 p.m.
