CARROLLTON, Ga. - Crooked numbers hurt the Vincennes University baseball team over the weekend.

The Trailblazers dropped two of three games against West Georgia Tech in their first series of the season.

The two teams played a seven-inning doubleheader on Saturday, while Sunday’s rubber match was a nine-inning contest.

In game one, VU dropped a 6-3 decision.

West Georgia Tech scored three runs in the fourth and six innings.

The Trailblazers were shutout until a 3-spot in the top of the seventh inning.

Treven Madden picked up a pair of hits in four trips to the plate as the Trailblazers designated hitter.

Luke Stock and Trent Weiss both collected RBI singles in the seventh inning.

Freshman Kasey Cheek tossed the first three innings. The right hander allowed two hits and fanned two batters in his scoreless outing.

Luke Lancaster pitched the fourth and suffered the loss.

In Saturday’s nightcap, VU broke a 3-all tie with a single tally in the sixth inning before exploding for seven runs in the top of the seventh.

The Trailblazers earned a split for the day with an 11-5 victory.

The VU offense wrapped out 12 hits in the win led by a pair of 3-for-4 performances from Sean Becker and Tyler Estes.

Becker also drove in three and scored two more.

Sophomore Austin Walden picked up the win with 1 ⅓ inning of scoreless relief.

Nate Toone earned the save in his 1 ⅔ innings of work.

In Sunday’s rubber match in the series, VU jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings but could not sustain the lead and West Georgia Tech won 7-5.

West Georgia Tech grabbed a 6-5 lead with a 5-run frame in the home half of the fourth before adding an insurance run in the sixth.

Becker collected three of the Trailblazers eight hits in loss with an RBI.

Madden recorded a 2-run triple, while Estes added an RBI triple.

The Trailblazers (1-2) return to the diamond next weekend with a three-game series at Cleveland State.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and one nine-inning game on Sunday.
