March 16, 2019 / Trailblazers kick off spring golf season

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. –  Defending NJCAA Division III men’s golf national champion Vincennes University kicked off its 2019 spring schedule at the Ron Marshall Spring Fling.

The Trailblazers finished the 54-hole tournament at Goose Pond Colony Resort in ninth place on Saturday. They posted a three-day total of 1,005 (340-324-341). The top two teams were Calhoun Community College (885) and Wallace State Community College (900).

 “You’ve got to start sometime somewhere, and this was it for us,” VU Golf Coach Dennis Chattin said. “We hope to get better.

“We play again at the end of the month and I’m sure the weather will be such that we can get a little better prepared for the next tournament.”

VU sophomores Jacob English and Zach Hall tied for 39th with 248 strokes. Both English and Hall shot 12-over-par 84s in the final round. English fired an 85 in the first round and a 79 in the second. Hall opened with an 87 and shot a 77 on the second day.

Freshman teammate Matt Jordan finished in a tie for 42nd place with 249 strokes. He carded scores of 80, 83 and 86.

Sophomore Joe Allbright tied for 48th. He fired rounds of 88, 85 and 87 for a 260.

Freshman Cole Parmer tied for 54th. He shot 100, 89 and 87. He finished at 276.  

The medalist was Calhoun’s Mac Murphy with a 215 (75-71-69). Wallace State’s Cody Maddox placed second at 218 (73-74-71).

Next up for the Trailblazers is the Rose-Hulman Invite March 30-31 at Hulman Links Golf Course in Terre Haute, Indiana.
