September 7, 2018 / Vincennes University Jasper QMA training program begins Oct. 15

JASPER, Ind. - Vincennes University Jasper is now accepting registrations for a Qualified Medication Aide program that begins Oct. 15.

A qualified medication aide is a certified nurse aide (CNA) who has completed additional training, annual in-service training, and demonstrated competency while dispensing and passing medications and or applying/administrating treatments under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse.

Those who successfully complete the classroom and clinical QMA program will be able to apply for the Indiana State Department of Health QMA exam. The QMA training program consists of 100 hours of training to include 60 hours of classroom instructions and 40 hours of supervised practicum.

The VUJ course is approved by the Indiana State Department of Health. Classes will meet from 6:30-9:30 p.m. (EDT) on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, October 15 to November 29. The fee is $895 and includes all books and materials. Lori L. Dooley, RN, is the instructor and program director.

All applicants must attend an orientation session where they will learn program and clinical requirements, student rules and policies, receive required forms, and take a basic reading and math test.

QMA candidates should call 812-481-5937 or send an email to VUJCCE@vinu.edu to schedule an appointment. Registration will be accepted after orientation. Payment in full or agency voucher required at time of registration. The deadline to register is October 8.
