VU Board welcomes new Police Officers

VINCENNES, Ind. - The Vincennes University Board of Trustees welcomed two new VU Police Officers during its Dec. 5 meeting at the Indiana Center for Applied Technology.

Officer Blake Marsee is a graduate of South Knox High School, has an associate degree in science from VU, and studied law enforcement and criminal justice at Indiana State University. Officer Marsee was previously with the Knox County Sheriff's Department.

Officer Kevin Porter is a graduate of North Knox High School, has VU associate degrees in science and law enforcement, and is currently working on a VU degree in homeland security. He is a five-year law enforcement veteran, having previously served with the Bicknell Police Department. He is a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

In addition to welcoming the new Police Officers, the Board also elected officers to serve for 2018-19. Michael Sievers, Vincennes, will serve as first vice chair; Reginald Henderson, Carmel, will serve as second vice chair; and John.R. Gaylor, Indianapolis, will serve as secretary. John Stachura, Vincennes, chairs the Board.

The Board heard the results of the recent Gallup-Indiana Graduate Satisfaction Survey which measured workplace engagement, well-being, college experiences, and alumni attachment. VU scored higher than other Indiana schools and outpaced the national averages in many areas. The VU news story can be read in full at www.vinu.edu/newsroom.

In other business, the Board also:

*  approved several academic program changes
*  heard a report on enrollment for the spring semester which begins on January 14. The next Start VU date for those seeking to enroll is January 11.

*  approved bids from three Vincennes-based contractors for the upcoming Godare Residence Hall renovation: Wolfe Construction Company, general construction - $350,866; Haase Mechanical, mechanical work, $2,719,795; Skill Electric, electrical work, $225,887.
