VINCENNES, Ind. - The Surgical Technology program at Vincennes University is the recipient of the Certificate of Merit from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). The award recognizes the VU program’s exceptional pass rates for students taking its exam.

“I am very proud of our students and their achievement. This is the second consecutive year we have achieved this award. Many of our students have jobs waiting for them upon graduation,” said Chris Keegan, professor and chair of the Surgical Technology program.

Surgical Technologists are critical members of the surgical team, assisting surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other surgical personnel to deliver patient care. The demand for these professionals continues to grow. A variety of medical settings offer opportunities for employment, including trauma centers, physician offices, clinics, surgery centers, and hospitals.

VU offers a two-year associate of science degree in Surgical Technology, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Graduates are eligible to sit for the NBSTSA National Certification Exam to become a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).

The class of 2016 had 13 graduates and a 100 percent pass rate on the NBSTSA National Certification Exam. The class of 2017 had nine graduates pass with one student retesting.

Graduates who wish to continue their education are eligible to apply for bachelor of science degree options at the University of Southern Indiana.
