How to Accept Direct Student Loans

To apply for a federal direct student loan, follow these directions:

  1. Go to www.vinu.edu and click on the MyVU link.
  2. Log in with your username and password.
  3. Under Quick Links, click on Financial Aid Status.
  4. Click on Award link.
  5. Click Award for Aid Year link.
  6. Select 2021-2022 from the drop-down box and click Submit.
  7. Click Accept Award Offer tab.
  8. Accept the amounts of the Federal Direct Loan(s) you want to borrow.
  9. Follow directions on how to complete Entrance Counseling and E-sign your MPN (Master Promissory Note).
  10. Go to studentaid.gov and Log In using your FSA ID username and password.
  11. Click I’m in School, then click Complete Entrance Counseling. Click Start for I am an Undergraduate Student. Allow about 30 minutes to complete this process.  Follow directions and steps from there.
  12. Once finished with Entrance Counseling, click on “Sign your Master Promissory Note” to complete and E-sign your MPN.  Click on Start button for “I’m an Undergraduate Student” MPN for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans.  NOTE: For the ‘References’ section you need the address and phone number of two people. One can be a parent; the other has to be someone at a different address. After you review your data and the loan information, including the Promise to Pay, complete the Sign & Submit section.
