AMT How it Works

How it Works:

The Application Process: Students interested in the AMT program must apply using both the Vincennes University application and the AMT application. The Accuplacer Placement Test must also be taken (www.vinu.edu/web/assesment-center). Candidates also need to complete an essay. Once accepted to Vincennes University, AMT partners will review your application and determine which applicants meet the rigorous background requirements. Next, the AMT partnership will interview candidates and select students for the upcoming class. (**We are now accepting applications for the Fall 2024. For information regarding the application process, please call 812-888-4421).

Summer Prior to class:

If selected as an intern, candidates could start working the summer before classes begin. This work assignment may be located on the floor in production which will assist with the overall knowledge of the plant, production, and product.

Each Semester:

AMT students will take classes on the Vincennes campus. Student must maintain at least a “C” or higher in all classes. Student success will be closely monitored. AMT students will work as a paid intern and take classes at the Vincennes campus. Students will work as a paid intern approximately 16 hours a week at the AMT Partner facility with many interns starting at $17 per hour. Additional hours may be awarded based on grades, work habits, and Partner’s need. Raises may be given based on grades and performance evaluations while working at the Partner’s facility. Students must maintain a “C” or higher in all classes to be retained in this selective program.

Time Frame:

Once accepted into the AMT program, students experience hands-on learning, attend VU courses, and real work experience continuously until graduation. Some partners offer paid summer employment prior to starting VU classes. The entire program lasts six consecutive semesters including summer sessions. Example: students starting Fall 2023 are expected to graduate Summer 2025.

Students are responsible for the cost of tuition, labs, and fees at Vincennes University. (Please check the VU website for current tuition rates and fees). Over the two years, students can earn as much as $40,000 in wages, which with careful planning, can cover all of a student’s education expenses. There are also potential grants and financial aid.
